About My Work

Deondra Martin

I was born and raised in beautiful south Louisiana, where inspiration is found throughout our everyday lives. Only here do you find a richness of creole culture that is centered around God, love, family and excellent food. Many of my paintings and drawings have come from my interpretation of our unique landscapes, traditions and colorful people.

Throughout my life’s journey I have experienced good and difficult seasons. I am the youngest of three, with too many nieces and nephews to list, the wife of a wonderful husband and mother of two beautiful sons. Three months after the birth of our eldest son, he left his earthly body to be with our heavenly Farther. During that short period there were many tears and a tremendous amount of love and support. The life that I have journeyed has not been the easiest but is has been blessed.

My lifelong dream is to own an art gallery and studio that will provide an after-school art program for teens. My formal training began throughout high school attending the Arts Academy and the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts during the summer. My education continued studying fine arts in Colorado at Rocky Mountain College of Art and Design. I am currently a proud member of the Louisiana Crafts Guild, a full-time artist, and a part time teacher at Painting with a Twist Lafayette. Every day is an opportunity to inspire and share my love of art.
